Course Overview

This vocational degree offers a strong foundation in language, cultural mediation, and translation theory and practice. Students will have the chance to work on multimedia translations, including advertisements, comic strips, songs, and films, along with specialized documents in fields like finance, law, IT, and medicine.

The program develops essential professional skills for the translation industry, providing in-depth knowledge of translation theories, methods, and procedures. Students also gain interpreting skills, exploring various techniques used in liaison interpreting within business contexts.

Entry Requirements

To apply for 3 year course, applicants will require the following:

  • minimum grade C in three A levels or minimum grades BBC in at least two A levels in academic subjects (or a minimum of 112 UCAS points from an equivalent Level 3 qualification) or EU/Overseas high school diploma

  • English Language GCSE at grade C (grade 4) or pass the University tests

  • you must be fluent or proficient in both languages

The BA Translation is available in eight language pathways paired with English. Student might be tested language proficiency in their chosen pathway. If this is the case, applicants will be asked to contact the course leader to arrange to take a test or an interview.

English Language Requirements

English certificates equivalent to GCSE

  • IELTS Overall score required 6.0, and minimum 5.5 in each component

  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic with minimum 59 in each component

  • Cambridge C1 Advanced, formerly Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) – grade C and above

  • Cambridge C2 Proficiency, formerly Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) – grade C and above

  • LanguageCert International ESOL Exam B2 LRWS with minimum 33 in each component

  • TOEFL Overall score required 72, inlcuding Listening: 17, Reading: 18, Writing: 17, Speaking: 20
